Who we are and how this site works
The Globetrotter’s Home is a WordPress site. Registration is closed to the public and the site has a small editorial user base. There are no online orders, no newsletter signup, and no advertising or affiliate programs on this site.
Information that reaches us
We receive information in three main ways: when you browse the site, when you choose to post a comment, and when you email us.
- Browsing the site: our hosting environment and content delivery network (CDN) generate standard server logs. These logs typically include your IP address, the pages you request, the date and time of the request, and your browser’s user agent. They are used to operate the site, prevent abuse, and diagnose problems.
- Comments: if you submit a comment, WordPress will process the name, email address, website field (if you choose to provide it), the comment text, the IP address, and the browser user agent to help with spam detection and moderation.
- Email: if you write to one of our published addresses, we receive the contents of your message and any headers supplied by your email service. We use this information to reply and to handle your request.
What we do not collect
We do not run an online store on this site and do not take payments. We do not use analytics services, ad networks, or affiliate tracking on this site. There are no contact or signup forms.
Cookies and local storage
This site uses only a small set of functional cookies.
WordPress may set a session cookie for logged-in administrators. Public registration is closed, so this applies only to site staff.
If you leave a comment, WordPress can save your name, email address, and website in cookies on your device so your details are prefilled next time you comment. These are for your convenience and are optional on your side.
Our CDN or caching layer may set strictly necessary cookies to deliver pages efficiently and keep the site available. We do not use cookies for advertising or analytics.
Why we use this information
We use information to operate the site, publish and moderate comments, respond to correspondence, improve reliability and security, and comply with applicable laws.
Who can see your information
Access is limited to the small editorial team that maintains the site and, where applicable, our hosting provider and CDN who process data on our behalf to keep the site online. If you email us, your message also passes through your and our respective email providers. We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising.
How long we keep it
Server logs are kept for the time needed to operate the site and investigate reliability or abuse issues, and may be retained longer when required by law or to protect the site.
If you leave a comment, the comment and its metadata are kept so we can display it and manage future moderation. You may ask us to remove your comment.
Emails you send to us are retained as part of our correspondence records. If you want an email you sent us to be deleted, contact us and we will review and honor reasonable requests, subject to legal and operational needs.
Your choices and rights
You can choose not to leave a comment, or to submit a comment without saving your details in cookies.
You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct inaccuracies, object to certain processing, or request deletion where applicable. We will respond as required by law.
You can also lodge a complaint with your local data protection or consumer protection authority.
Children’s privacy
This site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle personal information, we will update this page. Please check back from time to time for the latest version.
